The best budget boxing equipment

Looking for the best budget boxing equipment? Look no further! We have scoured the market to bring you affordable and high-quality boxing gear that won’t break the bank.

What will you need?

Remember that you don’t need to splurge on expensive workout gear or shorts to start boxing. We are all about the best budget boxing equipment, not the most stylish. If you care more about brand than value this is the wrong page for you. That doesn’t mean you can’t have both though.

Hand wraps – probably the most important on the list

The most crucial item on your list is hand wraps, which provide crucial wrist protection. Avoid gel ones, as they offer little to no wrist protection, and don’t opt for short ones either. There’s a reason they’re that length! Instead, go for affordable options like Proiron’s hand wraps. Not only are they of high quality, but they also come with a small breathable bag to store them in, which is essential since wraps can hold onto sweat and odor.

Many people wrap their hands very differently but some factors always remain the same

  • Protect the wrist – One of the most common injuries for boxers are in the wrist, they take a long, long time to recover from.
  • Protect the knuckles – boxers fracture is also very very common. We don’t wear hand protection for our opponent we wear it for ourselves.
  • Lock the thumb – If the thumb isn’t locked correctly you can quite easily fracture the loose digit on a bad hook.

Best budget Boxing gloves

Now with boxing gloves unlike hand wraps you really get what you pay for and quality is almost always associated with price that still doesn’t mean you need to break the bank. Realistically for advance boxers they will have multiple gloves for different training. 16oz gloves for sparring and heavy bag, 12oz for pads and so on. If working towards a budget I would recommend one pair of reasonable gloves rather than two cheap pairs at different size.

Everlast gloves provides that, good quality at an affordable price. These 16oz gloves are perfect for any beginner.

Glove prices range anywhere between £12 (15$) up to and over £1,000 ($1,350) beginners do not need to worry about the more premium priced gloves.

The three three most important things to consider when buying gloves are;

  • Protection (without good protection you will spend more time out of training than in)
  • Comfort (self explanatory – if they hurt/are uncomfortable you wont want to train in them)
  • Durability (you are not saving money if you are forever replacing them)

Boxing boots

These aren’t required for someone starting out but you may need to pick up some along the way. Lightweight comfortable trainers (sneakers) are fine to start. However, if you are set on boots Adidas offer a comfortable affordable boot the box hog is lightweight fairly durable and very affordable.

  • If you are trying to keep costs down find an lightweight, durable and comfortable shoe. Boots are only really required for competition.
  • If you opt for a boot you may not want to train in them 24/7. They are not as hard wearing as a traditional shoe.
  • Do not buy the cheapest boots available on the market – you will be replacing them so often it would have been more financially viable to spend a bit more on some more durable ones.

Gum shield/mouthguard

When it comes to boxing training, a gum shield is an essential piece of protective equipment. It is designed to protect your teeth, mouth, and jaw from any impact or injury during sparring or training sessions. Without a gum shield, you risk serious dental injuries, including broken or knocked-out teeth, and damage to your gums and jaw. A well-fitting gum shield can help absorb the shock of a punch and protect your mouth from cuts, bruises, and other injuries. So, whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned boxer, always wear a gum shield during training to protect yourself and ensure a safe and enjoyable boxing experience.

Buy only from reputable companies/retailers – most come with dental cover guarantee. NEVER SPAR WITHOUT ONE.
