Tyson Fury – The Gypsy King

From 1lb premature to 6ft 9 275lbs. Today we learn how Tyson Fury earned the title the Gypsy King. Today we go through some of the things you may not know about the one and only Tyson Fury.

Tyson fury was born 3 months early and only weighed 1lb in Manchester England. Which is a far cry away from his current measurements at 6ft 9 inches and 275lbs.

Look at the difference between these two!

Hall of famer legendary trainer Emanuel Steward predicted Tyson Fury would be “the future” of the heavyweight division

In 2010 Fury met manny for the the first time at the Kronk gym in detroit. Many was in disbelief of Fury’s size initially but even more so when he saw him move.

“But I was like ‘well that’s fine but can he do it when he in the ring boxing?’ Hitting the bag and stuff everything was great. Then in the ring it was the same thing. So that’s what I remember from him right away.  And all that charisma and charm. It was all the same thing then.”

“This is the new heavyweight division here”

Tyson and Joshua have sparred before

currently it seems to be the dream fight that just wont get over the line. However what we do know is that Fury and Joshua have been in the ring together in the past in 2010 the pair met in Finchley ABC

“Then Bash, he gives me a big uppercut right on the chin. If I’d have had a weak chin like David Price, I’d have been knocked out for a month”

“He’s very, very good and he’s only young, 20, watch out for that name Anthony Joshua he is one prospect for the future”

Fury’s chin or his heart?

After seeing Fury rise back up like the undertaker in the 12th round against Wilder in there first fight many people were shocked. Out of shape, ring rust and against probably one of the biggest punchers of all time this wouldn’t happen to anyone else. One of the most exciting trilogies and greatest comeback in boxing history of all time. Read more about the trilogy here

There’s no disputing that Fury has a “good” chin – but not great. Previously he has been downed by much much smaller men than himself once by Cunningham a natural Cruiserweight and once by relatively unknown Neven Pajkic.

However…

This isn’t a slander post; It’s not his chin which I feel is his greatest asset, its his heart. In all occasions he’s been knocked down he came back to win (if we include the rematch with Wilder) He stopped Cunningham, he stopped Pajkic & he DEMONLISHED Wilder. Is it Gypsy pride? Is it his belief in himself? I don’t know what it is but he keeps doing it.

Pillow hands?

Some fighters and fans alike state Fury has “pillow hands” meaning he carries no power. This just simply isn’t true, lets be honest if you was going to rank Fury’s attributes power wouldn’t be at the top but that doesn’t mean for one second he doesn’t carry power. His speed, footwork, head movement and angles are so good overshadows his power and simply didn’t fit his style at all.

That was until he started training with Javan “Sugar” Hill Steward nephew of legendary trainer Emanuel Steward founder of the Kronk gym – Steward trained 41 world champion fighters throughout his career.

The Kronk gym is notorious in the boxing world for it’s aggressive style and aiming for knockouts. Since appointing Sugar Hill Tyson Fury has won all three fights by knockout. Pillow hands no more.

He revived an otherwise dull heavyweight division

Although great boxers the Klitschko brothers were boring. Dominant but boring. Jab and grab with little personality in or out of the ring. Tyson, like the man he was named after is brash, doesn’t care what people think of him and is a natural entertainer. Fury wasn’t flattening people on the regular but over the years has gone from disliked Gypsy to the peoples champion. The interviews, the mind games the singing; the joker dethroned the king now who’s laughing?

Tyson Fury is a true showman from weigh, ring walk and fight night, when he’s in action he always entertains the fans.

A voice for the silent

Fury has become very open about his mental health struggles since dethroning Klitschko he explained that once he had achieved his goal he felt nothing, he was empty and had nothing to be excited about. This lead to a decline in his health abusing drugs and alcohol to feel something; trying to fill a void. Speaking on the Joe Rogan podcast Fury went into detail on how he wanted to end his own life and how boxing saved him. He has singlehandedly reduced stigma for men suffering in silence with mental health struggles. The once upon a time 1lb Tyson Luke Fury has not just changed boxing he has changed the world.

If mental health can bring somebody as big and strong as me to my knees, then it could bring anybody to their knees
